For over 22 years, Shelby Bates has dedicated her life to riding and competing at the highest levels of barrel racing. She is a WPRA Professional Barrel Racer from Loomis, CA. Shelby has her sights set on winning RFD-TV’s The American Rodeo and qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Currently, she holds an impressive list of achievements, including being a three-time American Qualifier, a four-time California Circuit Finals Qualifier, and multiple 1D barrel racing wins. Shelby knows what it takes to keep her horses performing at their best. A key part of her success? Proper nutrition, powered by Omega Fields.
Meet Shelby’s Equine Partners
Guys R A Mystery aka Sherlock, a 16-year-old veteran in Shelby’s string, thrives in the excitement of rodeo life. Unlike many horses who prefer controlled jackpot settings, Sherlock shines in the unpredictable energy of a rodeo. The noise and atmosphere fuel his competitive edge. “He would rather run in a loud performance with questionable ground, over running in a quiet jackpot with perfect ground.”
SH Famously Smooth aka Hooey, a 7-year-old derby horse, is Shelby’s up-and-coming star. While he’s still gaining experience at the pro rodeo level, his raw speed sets him apart. Even when he makes mistakes, his talent keeps him clocking top times. Beyond his incredible speed, Hooey’s playful personality keeps things interesting in and out of the arena.
Shelby shares: “My goal for the 2025 season is to qualify for my fifth California Circuit Finals and win the average there.”
The Omega Fields Difference
Competing at the highest level requires more than just talent and training—it demands peak health, strength, and recovery. Since incorporating Omega Fields into her horses’ diets, Shelby has seen significant improvements in their overall wellness and performance.
✅ Stronger Hooves: Both Sherlock and Hooey have maintained excellent hoof health, critical for keeping them sound and ready to compete.
✅ Improved Recovery: Sherlock no longer experiences stiffness after long hauls, allowing him to feel fresh and ready to perform.
✅ Peak Condition: With Omega Fields, Shelby’s horses stay healthy, maintain beautiful coats, and perform at the top of their game.
Why Shelby Chooses Omega Fields
One of the biggest advantages of feeding Omega Fields is the convenience of an all-in-one vitamin and mineral supplement. “I don’t have to worry about missing anything in my horse’s diet,” Shelby shares. Additionally, she values the consistency and quality of the product. Shelby appreciates that every delivery provides the same superior nutrition her horses need. Quality is a top concern at Omega Fields!
Shelby feeds Omega Horseshine Complete to Sherlock and Hooey. This ensures they receive enhanced Omega-3s for top performance, a healthy coat, and strong hooves. The Complete version of Omega Horseshine provides a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals to support overall wellness and performance.
She also feeds Omega Nibblers, which are low in sugar and starch AND packed with flax. They are a healthy treat to keep her horses feeling happy & appreciated on the go.
As Shelby continues to chase down new titles and seek the limits of her horses’ abilities, Omega Fields remains a crucial part of her formula for success. Whether it’s the seasoned confidence of Sherlock or the raw potential of Hooey, Omega Fields helps keep them strong, sound, and ready to win.
